Learn the Basics of Creating a Brand

Branding is the very first step towards making of a successful enterprise.Every organization initially has to create a brand for itself in the form of a logo, name, design or a blend of all of them. This brand is later used by the customers to recognize and differentiate from competitors in the industry. Since branding is fundamental to every organization, it is essential for management students to get their hands on all kinds of information related to branding. Along with it, students should be aware of the latest trends employed during different stages of branding.

The process of branding begins by defining a brand for the organization. Well, defining a brand is a crucial task and one has to be thoughtful while doing it. Though different enterprises have different strategies towards creating a brand but the features that remain common to all are:
  • It should be unique - The purpose of creating a brand is to differentiate your organization from others. Thus, the first thing to be kept in mind while creating a brand is it should be unique. Be it the logo or the design, you have to come up with something out of the box. It is true that you can have a look at the branding strategies of your competitors but never follow them.
  • Keep your Word - Telling customers how your brand is going to be useful is mandatory. But, to follow what you say is even more important. It is noteworthy that a brand is not just a physical entity but it is promise made by the organization to their customers. If the promise is not kept then nobody is going to follow you.
  • Market the Brand - Branding and marketing goes hand in hand. To popularize a brand, marketing is obligatory. This is the reason why students should be familiar with the marketing trends as well. An integration of branding and marketing would let the organization go on board.

Get an Edge over your Counterparts by Gaining Proficiency at Soft Skills

In this era of decimating competition, it is immensely difficult to secure a seat in a leading management institute. Well, if one has been successful in getting admission in a management institute then it definitely calls for a celebration. Once you are over with celebrating the moment of glory, it is the time to acquire all those skills that turn a student into a professional.

In management programs like MBA, greater emphasis is laid on practical aspects instead of passing on bookish knowledge. Though management students are expected to acquire variety of skills to groom their personality but soft skills form the nucleus. The hiring companies are always looking for students who are adept at soft skills. But, the problem lies in the fact that there is a dearth of MBA students with right set of soft skills. Thus, for getting an edge over other students, it is better to get hands on experience with soft skills.

Generally, leading management institutes conduct special seminars where students get training on soft skills such as leadership, teamwork and a few more. At RIMT, esteemed personalities from the corporate world are invited to throw some light on the importance of these skills and suggest ways by which students can imbibe the skills in their personality.

It is worth mentioning that MBA students can learn such skills on their own as well. One of the best ways to absorb soft skills is to participate in almost every formal and informal event being organized in college and in fact anywhere in your surroundings. Start taking initiatives in events in college and it would definitely increase the odds of getting placement in a multinational organization.

Engineers are Responsible towards Society Too!

An employee is not only responsible towards his career or employer but to the society as a whole. All of us enter into a particular profession due to reasons like prosperous career, high salary, security and many more. But, what we generally forget is, our contribution at the professional front helps in making the society a better place to live. Every profession has a few responsibilities attached to it and all the professionals must fulfill their share of responsibility to the fullest. Now, the social responsibilities for every profession vary except a few points. Here we mention the responsibilities of an engineer towards the society. It would definitely help our future engineers in understanding what they should do in order to build a strong nation.

  • Engineers have to experiment with multiple elements while designing useful devices and equipment for the society. While carrying out the experiments, it is the responsibility of the engineer to ensure that the safety of the society is not compromised at all.

  • Some amount of the society funds are raised for research work in the field of engineering and technology. It is again the responsibility of an engineer to make sure that the funds provided are being used optimally.

  • Engineers are also responsible for promoting technical development and they should spread awareness among common people to the maximum extent possible.

  • Also, engineers are required to be willing and enthusiastic about learning new concepts and acquiring skills that help them in moving ahead in their profession.

  • They should toe the line of ethical conduct for engineers and report about misconduct of engineers to the concerned authority.

  • Lastly, engineers are expected to be honest towards their profession as well as the society as a whole.

Surely, a good character helps engineers in reaching great heights in their profession.

“Competition has grown stiff” – This is one of the most commonly used statements by today’s generation. Whether students are applying for admission in a university or a job position in a leading organization, they have to fight and survive a tough competition. It is very much true that students have to prove their efficiency at different levels and one of the levels common to selection procedures is group discussion.

During group discussion, a group of students (numbers of students vary greatly) is given a topic to discuss upon.  The topics for discussion could be anything from a recent political controversy to some movie you last watched. So be prepared as you might have to speak on something that you have never heard before. This is why it is better to read newspapers and books so that you are aware of the recent happenings in the world. Also, students can search topics of group discussion online to get a fair idea.

The purpose of group discussion is not just to test the knowledge or analytical skills of a student.  Rather, recruiters test varied skills and attributes of students during group discussion. Ability to communicate, team-work, leadership skills are some of the skills observed during group discussions.

  • Below are mentioned some of the tips that you can follow to perform well at group discussions.

Simulation Teaching – A Step towards Industry Tailored Education

Stepping and surviving in today’s corporate sector is a challenge in itself. The fast-paced corporate sector is evolving and adopting new techniques & strategies in order to increase their share of profit multiple times. These companies are so much time-starved that they only appoint candidates who are familiar or maybe well-versed with all the prevailing market trends. Such a demanding attitude of corporate organizations not only poses a challenge amongst students but also amongst the educational institutions.

If one compares the present teaching methods and techniques with the ones followed in the earlier times then a significant difference can be observed. Unlike earlier days, institutions offering management and technical courses employ advanced and practical ways for teaching students. Doubtlessly, varied methods are used for training students before they enter the corporate world but the one gaining popularity with each passing day is “Simulation”.

The term simulation is used commonly in different fields and it means “imitation of some real thing”. By using the simulation teaching method, the students are made to imitate the real situations confronted in the corporate sector. This technique firstly helps students in understanding the nature and behavior of a particular field.

Let us quote a very simple example to make students understand what exactly is done in simulation.

Here, let us take an example of students pursuing MBA in Human Resources. HR professionals generally have to conduct interviews be it a telephonic interview or interview in person. Now, with simulation method of training, students have to play the role of an interview while some other student plays the role of interviewee. Both the students would prepare material to ensure that they justify the role being played.

This is just one example and you can find this technique being used in almost every stream and discipline of education.

At RIMT, our faculty members are constantly working on innovative methods for teaching and training students. It not only helps in preparing students for the corporate world but also assists in improving quality of education.

Steps to Create an Eye Catchy Presentation

Days are gone when books were the only source used for carrying out teaching-learning process. Today, it is the age of smart classrooms where the teaching-learning process is supported and enhanced with technological devices such as projectors, computers, audio devices and a few more. With the integration of education and technology, teachers motivate students to use as much technology as possible for an efficient learning experience. While focusing on this trend, most of the students (especially management students) are required to prepare presentations during their MBA program.

Basically, presentation is a medium using which students can put forward their point in a concise manner. Preparing a presentation not only put on display your managerial skills but also communication skills (when candidate explains the content) & leadership skills (controlling a large audience). Doubtlessly, each student has his own way of expressing things but a few points can be taken into consideration in order to prepare an effective & interesting presentation.

Firstly, students should decide a topic for their presentation. If your teacher has already assigned a topic to you then start collecting information on the same. Data collection is a strenuous and time consuming task. This is the reason why it is better to take help from your teacher in finding out which information is relevant and which is not. With the completion of data collection, it is time to categorize it and prepare an outline for the presentation. You can easily continue working on the basis of outline drafted and later on club the slides together. The slides should always be sequenced in such a manner that it sounds like a story.

Later on, students should look into minute details like the size and type of font, background color, text color, special effects, and frequency and placement of images.

At RIMT, we certainly provide our students the best technological devices thereby enabling students to use them effectively in routine.

Easy Tips to Perform Well in Viva Voce

Today, our education system is experiencing a radical shift from quantity to quality. These days, less emphasis is laid on the grades and more on the knowledge of the students. This is the primary reason behind the inclusion of oral examination in professional courses.  Engineering is one amongst those professional courses in which viva voce is given due importance. So, in order to become a successful engineer, it is essential to perform well during the viva voce, taking place in your college at regular intervals.

Some of the points that might help you to prepare and perform well at the viva voce include:
·         In-depth Knowledge of the Subject

During the oral examination, the invigilators ask questions that test the understanding of the subject. Thus, the key to a successful viva is deep knowledge of the subject matter. Students must go through their text books as well as reference books carefully before appearing for the exam.

·         Guidance from Faculty Members

A teacher is always the best guide and students should not hesitate while seeking their help. Students can ask their teachers about the possible questions that can be asked by the examiner and prepare on the similar lines.

·         Stay Confident

Sometimes, your confidence and the right attitude can help in conquering difficult situations easily. So, when you are appearing for viva voce, be confident and do not show any signs of nervousness in front of the examiner. It definitely helps in forming a good impression on the examiner.

·         Honesty is the Best Policy

We have always been taught that honesty is the best policy and you should follow the same at the time of viva. For instance, if you do not know any answer then tell the examiner directly instead of saying just anything. If you have not read a particular topic then tell the teacher honestly and he might help you by asking questions from other topics.

In a way, viva voce can be considered as a rehearsal for the interviews that you would be facing in the years to come. So, avail this opportunity to the fullest and prepare for these examinations whole-heartedly.

We, at RIMT, help our students in every possible way so that they perform well during the oral examinations.
